The RB8 bus is built with an integrated body shell structure that is safe, strong and as light as reasonably possible. It utilises High Tensile Galvanised steel tubing in combination with rolled and pressed sections to produce a vehicle of exceptional strength and durability. All hollow sections are injected with a corrosion protection coating to inhibit rust formation inside the structure. The body structure is ADR compliant.
All exterior panels are made of GRP (fiberglass) including boot lid and side access doors and hatches. The roof panel is a one piece fiberglass sheet with extruded aluminium cant incorporating gutter recesses on both sides from front to rear.
The interior is clean and uncluttered. The interior side walls and ceiling panels are Laminex. Pillar and sill cappings are thermoformed from highly durable ASA. Front and rear header panels, and door pillar cappings are GRP mouldings with a durable finish. Modesty panels are fitted in front of the first row of seats trimmed in fabric matched to the seat trim.
Curved one piece screen designed to maximise driver visibility. Glass thickness is 7mm laminated and produced to European ECE standard.
Saloon windows are made of anti-sun tinted, toughened safety glass, bonded to the body. The driver’s door incorporates an electrically operated window.
ENTRANCE & EXIT
Standard: One (1) x 750mm plug type front door, manufactured from extruded aluminium sections with toughened safety glass window at the top and GRP panel below. The passenger door is power operated by electric drive with push button control at the driver’s instrument panel. Touch sensor along the vertical edges on both sides of the door and load sensing designed into the control system protect passengers from entrapment by the door. As an added safety feature the accelerator pedal is disabled while the passenger door is open. Mechanical emergency release handles are fitted inside and outside which allow the door to be opened manually even if there is a total electrical power failure.
Option: Brake interlock system to RTA Technical Specification 146.
Standard: “Break-glass” side emergency door and windows with foot rest moulded into the exterior side panels plus two emergency roof hatches.
Option: Hinged emergency door at LH rear which is also used as wheelchair access door in combination with under floor mounted wheel chair hoist.
AIR CONDITIONING (Standard)
Denso roof mounted saloon air conditioning system, air ducted full length of the vehicle with fixed outlets in ceiling ducts.
Separate driver’s air conditioning system.
Standard: driver’s heater and windscreen demister plus 2 heaters mounted on the saloon floor under passenger seats
EXTERIOR ACCESS FLAPS
Moulded fiber glass access doors are fitted for the following:
– Washer bottle and expansion tank access hinged with quick release catch.
– Fuel filler access hinged with lockable quick release catch.
– air cleaner access hinged with quick release catch
– battery and electrics access panel hinged with gas stays and spring catches
– Spare wheel access panel hinged with gas stays and spring catches.
12 mm rot proofed structural plywood, screwed, bonded and fully undersealed.
Heavy duty vinyl flooring material bonded to floor board and up the side-wall to seat mounting rail level.
Hinged hatch over engine with quick release catch to facilitate daily fluid level checks.
Floor hatch fitted over the transmission and secured with screw action fasteners at each corner.
SOUND AND HEAT INSULATION
Insulation is high density closed cell fire
retardant PU foam on side walls with glass wool insulation to ceiling cavity.

Vehicles are finished with PPG Delfleet paint system with a high level of finish and endurance. The system incorporates high quality primer material, and 2 pack final coat, which is cured in a full low bake heated spray booth to ensure a high quality long lasting finish. The standard colour is Whit with grey skirt panels and bumpers
Passenger seats are available in several
style options including ADR 68 seat belts, trimmed in cloth or other quality fabrics. Seating capacity is 35 passengerr maximum for standard metro seats or 34 passengers maximum for ADR68 seat belted seats.
Fixed type seat fitted as standard trimmed in fabric matched to passenger seating.
One (1) fire extinguisher mounted behind driver’s seat.
